About

Can you be a photographer all your life and not know it until you’re in midlife?

I think that’s what happened to me, and I have begun to build on that. Throughout my life the visits to the countries of Italy, Greece and Turkey captivated my interest of ancient life and the architecture of the Greeks and Romans with albums of hundreds of pictures yet to be scanned into the computer age.

Having lived in several places within the United States each area has had its own special effects to inspire me. The ocean beaches and fall colors of the East Coast, the wheat fields of Kansas, the Rockies of Colorado, and currently the high desert of the Southwest. After living on the East Coast for most of my life, the wide open spaces of Arizona are breathtaking. The awesome view and the wildlife of my own little stake of high desert, in the southeast corner of Arizona, is especially inspiring. The big sky, the mountains, the valleys are different every time you look depending on the time of day, the weather, or even the mood you are in.

Nowadays a short walk will turn into hours of shooting. Lost in a group of wildflowers on the roadside, looking for the right angle or waiting for the right light, or sometimes waiting for the flower to bloom!

My favorite studies are flowers,(particularly flowers with bugs, bees, butterflys and hummingbirds attached) followed by landscapes, wildlife, zoolife and lifelife. With photography as a sideline (I still need a paycheck!-which I receive working in healthcare) many of my photos are taken stopping along the way, on the one hour ride to and from the “job”. So I leave a little earlier and get home a little later some days.

A member of the Tombstone Art Assoc. in Tombstone, AZ and the Huachuca Art Assoc. in Sierra Vista, Az. Having participated in local Judged Art Shows and Photo Contests it has helped to build my portfolio of award winning photos. Taking a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place and several Honorable Mentions over the last 2 years. My photos show at the Tombstone Art Gallery all year, the Huachuca Gallery, the Elfrida Arts and the Art Den of Sunsites, AZ and many local Arts and Craft fairs.

I believe “getting the picture” is not what equipment or lenses you use but how you “see and feel or sense” the “moment”. This idea connects me to every small moment of the world I capture. My goal is only to highlight the natural beauty of the environment around me, the objects we are too busy to admire without a sticky note to point them out. Your feedback on any photos is encouraged.
